Discover more from Still Breathing

If it is the everyday thoughts, feelings and actions of everyday people that describes our story, then it is my contention that each and every one of us can take part in that process, regardless of the judgements of others – too much of this, not enough of that, not adhering to standards, lacking in rigour or depth or breadth or education or whatever.
With that in mind, I write with the intention of exploring the contents of my own head. There is nothing special about the inside of my head. I am not a thought leader, a politician, an historian, a businessman, and although (or perhaps because of the fact that) I have written my share of bad poetry, I am neither a poet nor a published author.
I just write. And much of it can be judged in many different ways, but at the time of writing, I have lived for 63 years on planet earth, alongside (now) approximately 7 billion other people. Inside my head lies the individual experiences of one of those 7 billion people, and whilst those experiences will be similar to those of the other people who live on the planet, they will not be exactly the same. Even accounting for cultural, legal, religious, educational, racial, familial, age differences, and all the other differences you can think of, my experiences will still be unique – as will yours. We all interpret our perceptions differently, and react to differing stimuli in our own unique way. And we have been doing that since the moment we were born.
Thus, I do not seek to enforce my will upon others. I do not consider what I write to be better (or worse) than what anyone else writes. I do not expect anything from anyone. I do not seek to lead, preach, persuade, cajole, convince or otherwise influence anyone else. If any of those things happen, that will be down to individual interpretation. Whilst I post writing on a public platform, and therefore have a desire to share what I have to say, it does not matter to me whether it is read by others or not. Thus, I have an audience of one in mind (often cited as a criticism by others). I wish to explore the inside of my head. If anyone else is reading this, it may lead you to do the same – or it may not. Either is fine.
Sometimes, my writing may be promoting an argument, and others may wish to adopt that viewpoint for themselves, but it is mostly not my intention to deliberately have that happen. Tomorrow, I may present the opposite view. For me, it is about exploration. That being said, I do have a set of beliefs that remain stable, and I may express them in a vociferous way from time to time, for which I do not apologise. I defend the right to have an opinion. And I defend the right to change my mind.
Yes, I want to have my cake, and have eaten it, too. Thus, much of what I say will be illogical, irrational or contrary, but I have it in mind to explore rather than explain.
Everything has an off switch. You have the right to stop reading anything I have written, or to never start.
Both you and I have the right to completely ignore each other, should we wish to do that, although it is not my intention to do that, unless you are a troll.
Thank-you for taking the time to come this far.
